The Girl Effect Foundation asked us to help them with setting the scene for a workshop for a 240 member Nike Corporate Leadership Team event at its Beaverton WHQ. Ultimately these top brass were expected to spend a couple of hours in a large conference room and come up with ideas and ways to instigate education opportunities for impoverished teen girls in 3rd world countries. These CLT members have also been spending hours in other conference rooms seeing flashy and technically amazing presentations, so its hard to imagine that they would be inspired without a real wake up call. We wanted to create an environment that best represented a Kiberan slum, so that they got a glimpse into this horrific world. DCD worked with Figureplant to craft a truly realistic narrow walkway for the guest to walk down before they entered into the workshop room. The heat, smell and sounds were truly jarring. The detail that the set decorators created was incredible, and it translated into a visceral reaction from everyone who encountered it. the mission was complete, and to such a degree, that the installation was left in place for 3 days so other Nike team members could experience it.
